Alicia Eccleston is an artist from Manchester, currently based in Leeds studying BA Fine Art with History of Art (Industry Year) at the University of Leeds.
Though her practice is predominantly focused within institutional critique, the argument of accessibility and the role of art within society, recently the definition of 'artist’ has become central to her work. Through the process of screen printing and with the use of text and language as communicative tools she presents openly interpretative ideas that aim to inform active discussion.
With her recent discovery in screen printing and the power of unsystematic accidents she creates simple works that feel controlled and meticulously curated yet unrestricted in their interpretation. The viewer is left questioning the opinion of the artist herself whilst also forming their own position on the subjects discussed in her work. Future artworks will include the use of text and discussion through mediums such as film, sound and relational aesthetics alongside the potential of a performative body of work.
